Schakowsky Statement on the Shootings in Copenhagen
February 16, 2015
CHICAGO -- "I join in grieving for those who were killed in Copenhagen because of their views and because of their religion. Once again, a synagogue has been targeted. As a Jew, a mother and a grandmother, my heart goes out to the family of the Jewish security guard as well as the friends and family of the girl marking her Bat Mitzvah, a ritual that should have been one of joy instead of horror. These acts of terrorism and anti-Semitism are indefensible. We must come together to prevent any more of these tragic events so that children and adults can practice their faith in peace, without fear anywhere in the world."
