Schakowsky statement on Trump Administration's plot to sabotage the Affordable Care Act
Congresswoman Schakowsky released the following statement after reports indicated the Trump administration's intent to end cost-sharing subsidy payments that could lead to drastic premium increases for consumers across the country:
"Another leak from the White House today demonstrates that President Trump is continuing his efforts to sabotage the Affordable Care Act – jeopardizing health care for more than 20 million Americans. According to White House advisers, the Trump Administration intends to deny payments to insurers to pay for lower cost-sharing for lower-income families. Insurers have already said that uncertainty over those payments would cause them to pull out of markets or, if they stay in, jack up premiums to everyone in order to pay for the lost funding. The damage to children, women and men who rely on the law for coverage is enormous, but apparently President Trump doesn’t care."
