Schakowsky Statement on the Trump Administration's Title X Gag Rule

WASHINGTON -- Today,U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip, released the following statement on the Trump Administration’s finalization of the Title X gag rule:

“Today, the Trump Administration finalized their domestic gag rule and proved once again they will stop at nothing to undermine women’s health and access to abortion care,” Schakowsky said. “The rule disproportionally impacts low-income communities and people of color, weakening health care access for the 4 million Americans who rely on Title X centers.

“The gag rule will prevent Title X providers from referring patients for requested abortion care and providing information on all available reproductive health care options. This is an existential threat to the Title X program, the nation’s only federally funded family planning program. Make no mistake: this rule is part of a crusade to penalize and defund trusted family planning and sexual health care providers, including Planned Parenthood, an organization that provides care for 41 percent of all Title X patients.”
