Schakowsky Statement on Trump’s Attempt to Seize Control of Our Elections

EVANSTON – Today, U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) released the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s threat to assert federal control over elections:

“Donald Trump doesn’t get to rewrite the rules of our elections because he’s afraid of losing.

“Threatening to use emergency powers to take control of voting is an unconstitutional power grab. Our elections belong to the people, not Donald Trump.

“We must raise our voices, take a stand, and fight with everything we’ve got to protect every voter’s freedom and our democracy. The American people, not Donald Trump, decide who represents them.”
