SCHAKOWSKY WELCOMES 9TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
ARTISTIC DISCOVERY WINNER
TO WASHINGTON, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) welcomed the 9th CD winner of the Congressional Arts Competition, An Artistic Discovery, to Washington, D.C.

Vivian Zapata's acrylic painting titled "The Most Beautiful Nectar" was picked by a panel of judges on May 25 in Evanston to represent the 9th CD in this national arts contest. Vivian graduated in the spring from Niles North High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the Hispanic National Honor Society. She will be attending the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champagne in the fall.

An Artistic Discovery is a national art competition designed to encourage and reward the artistic ability of America's high school students. Winners from Congressional Districts will have their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year and are invited to travel to Washington, D.C. to participate in a special ceremony with other winners from around the country.

"Vivian is a shining star among the brightest and most talented young artists in our District. Vivian's painting will be displayed in the halls of our nation's Capitol for all members of Congress and the thousands of visitors to see and to enjoy," Schakowsky said.
