SCHAKOWSKY WELCOMES NORTHWESTERN WOMEN'S LACROSSE CHAMPS TO CAPITOL, WHITE HOUSE

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), whose district includes the City of Evanston and Northwestern University, today released a statement congratulating the Northwestern women's lacrosse team on their national championship. Representative Schakowsky joined the team this morning at a White House ceremony honoring NCAA champions. Later in the day, Representative Schakowsky was joined by Senators Durbin and Obama, and Representative Melissa Bean, to welcome the team to the U.S. Capitol. After greeting the team with her colleagues on the steps of the Capitol, Representative Schakowsky led the team members on a personal tour of the U.S. House of Representatives.

On Sunday May 22nd at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, MD, the Northwestern University women's lacrosse team won the NCAA Division I Championship in a 13-10 victory over the University of Virginia.

Representative Schakowsky's full statement is below:

"For the first time since 1941, the Northwestern Wildcats won a national NCAA championship on May 22nd. I'm proud of this team's season of accomplishments - as the undefeated national Division I champions and the second NU team ever to win an NCAA title. Since it took only four seasons at the varsity level for these talented women to win a national title, I expect that many more achievements lie ahead for the Wildcats. You go girls!"
