Seniors Task Force Co-Chairs Celebrate Older Americans Month

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today,House Democratic Caucus Seniors Task Force co-chairs Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) recognized May as Older Americans Month by releasing the following joint statement:

"The Democratic Caucus Seniors Task Force continues to work towards ensuring that America's seniors are supported and protected. We have a promise to uphold to our seniors that if they work hard and play by the rules, they will be able to live out their lives with dignity. It is a responsibility passed down from generation to generation.

"Unfortunately, our Republican colleagues have again passed a budget resolution that disregards the needs of older Americans by destroying Medicare, slashing Medicaid, jeopardizing Social Security, and cutting funding to essential programs established by the Older Americans Act. As we move into the budget reconciliation process, Republicans continue to gut the Affordable Care Act, which is already saving seniors billions of dollars on prescription drugs, increasing their access to life saving preventative care services, and improving their quality of life.

"As we celebrate Older Americans Month, Democrats reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that America's seniors have the affordable health care, a secure retirement, and safe, livable communities they need and deserve....
