Statement on Illinois Marketplace Health Plan Rates 25% Lower Than Expected
Washington, DC (September 24, 2013) — Rep. Jan Schakowsky released the following statement on today's announcement that Illinois health plan rates will be 25% lower than expected:
"Governor Quinn's announcement today is great news for my constituents and all Illinoisans. When the Illinois Marketplace opens on January 1st, individuals and families will have many affordable health options available to them, with health insurance premiums 25% lower than expected. Many purchasers will qualify for assistance that will bring their costs even lower. No longer will people with pre-existing conditions be denied care or charged more. The Illinois Marketplace will provide guaranteed access to affordable, quality and comprehensive health care.
"Obamacare has already succeeded in improving health care in Illinois and today's news is another critical reason why we need to move full speed ahead with its implementation. I am pleased that so many groups and individuals in our state are working aggressive ly to provide outreach, information and help. I hope my Republican colleagues in Congress will join in that effort and will finally stop trying to derail and defund this historic law that will help so many of our friends, neighbors, co-workers and family members."
