Statement on National Fair Housing Alliance Investigation

November 14, 2013

Washington, DC (November 14, 2013) – Rep. Jan Schakowsky released the following statement on the National Fair Housing Alliance investigation:

“Millions of American families have been forced from their homes since the foreclosure crisis began. Minority families have suffered a disproportionate number of foreclosures, in part due to pricing discrimination which offered worse lending terms to minority buyers than to their white counterparts. By allowing foreclosed properties in minority communities – including in my home town of Evanston – to fall into disrepair, entire neighborhoods are paying the price of bank discrimination. I applaud the National Fair Housing Alliance for documenting this abuse and pushing for change. I will work with the organization to hold Bank of America and other irresponsible lenders accountable and end housing discrimination.”
