Statement on Supreme Court to Hear Cases on Women's Contraceptive Coverage
Washington, DC (November 26, 2013) – Rep. Jan Schakowsky released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision to hear two cases on the Affordable Care Act’s requirement that contraception be included as a benefit in health insurance policies.
“A woman’s health care decisions should be made by a woman and her doctor, not her employer. Obamacare assures women that they can get contraceptive services without cost-sharing requirements, meaning that cost is no longer a barrier to women getting the medical care their doctors prescribe. Women around the country have already received this critical benefit under the new health law, and I’m confident that the U.S. Supreme Court will not act to take it away from them. The Supreme Court’s decision should be clear: women should have the right to make their own health choices instead of being subject to the decisions of their boss or politicians.”
