Statement on Veterans Day

Washington, DC (November 8, 2013) – Rep. Jan Schakowsky released the following statement in commemoration of Veterans Day:

“On Monday we honor our brave veterans, who have served the United States by keeping us safe and promoting our democratic values and ideas overseas. This day is a time to reflect on the service and sacrifice these courageous men and women and their families have made for our country.

“As a nation, we must ensure that all our veterans have access to good jobs, affordable and accessible housing and mental health services. In the coming weeks, budget negotiations will continue on how best to reduce our deficit. I will continue to fight against any cuts that will hurt our veterans and their access to quality and affordable healthcare.

“Our veterans have risked their lives in service of this country and I join all Americans in commemorating them on this special day.”
