Create Jobs and Promote Green Energy Released by White House | ||
WASHINGTON, DC (March 12, 2009) — Following the Department of Energy's announcement today that Illinois will receive $343,847,619 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-IL, released this statement praising the Recovery and expressing optimism for its success. "The Recovery Act is still in the very early stages, but we're starting to see its positive effects here in Illinois. The funding coming to our state will create jobs, green our communities, and provide relief for high energy bills. Improving energy efficiency in homes through weatherization will move America closer to energy independence and decrease unemployment through a targeted injection of capital into the economy. I am confident that as more and more funds take effect, we will see improvement throughout our economy.... The funding provided by the Recovery Act through the Department of Energy will be divided between the Weatherization Assistance Program and the State Energy Program. According to the department, the WAP enables low-income families to permanently reduce their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient. Similarly, SEP funds are used by states to address their energy priorities and adopt emerging renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. |
