WASHINGTON – This week, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) implemented a rule to allow Medicare Part B coverage of doctor-prescribed compression garments, the clinically recognized treatment for lymphedema. This rule was made possible by the passage of the Lymphedema Treatment Act, authored by U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) and Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (GA-01), which finally amended the Medicare statute to allow for coverage of compression supplies.
