Rep. Schakowsky Statement in Honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day

January 27, 2016
Press Release

Today, Representative Jan Schakowsky released the following statement in honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day:

“Today we mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day. It is fitting that we use this day to reflect on the victims of the Holocaust, including the 6 million Jews, 2 million Gypsies, 250,000 mentally and physically disabled people, and 9,000 homosexual men who were killed during World War II. On this anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, we remember those who were lost to such horrific crimes against humanity and consider all that can be done to ensure that genocides around the world can be prevented. It is also a time to work with our allies in Europe and elsewhere to stop the spread of anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and all targeting of at risk populations, like the 60 million displaced persons across the globe, including 12 million Syrian refugees.”
