SCHAKOWSKY ANNOUNCES LAW ENFORCEMENT FUNDING FOR NILES
NILES, IL - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today announced that she secured federal law enforcement funds for the Village of Niles. The $150,000 in federal funding was included in the Fiscal Year 2005 Omnibus Appropriations spending bill.
During a news conference at the Niles Police Department with Mayor Nick Blase and Police Chief Dean Strzelecki, Schakowsky said that the law enforcement technologies funding would be used to improve emergency communications. Specifically, $50,000 would be used by the police department to purchase modern-day communications equipment and update present emergency communication hardware. The remaining $100,000 will be used for Community and Emergency Services Messaging System, which is used to communicate with residents during emergencies.
"I am very pleased to have secured these critical funds for the Village of Niles to help improve the safety of our law enforcement and our residents. Law enforcement officials must have the best equipment and latest technology available in order to communicate with each other and the residents they are entrusted to protect during an emergency," said Schakowsky.
Mayor Blase followed by stating, "I want to thank Congresswoman Schakowsky for her continued concern for the Village of Niles. The funds will go a long way to making sure the Village has the specialized police equipment necessary for any emergency situation. Congresswoman Schakowsky has always been concerned for the residents in her District and she has shown that with this grant."
Schakowsky was successful in securing millions of dollars in federal resources for top priorities across the 9th Congressional District, including funding for education, health care, law enforcement and transportation improvements.
