EVANSTON, IL - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) announced that a full, four-year scholarship to Columbia College will be awarded to the winner of this year's 22nd annual Congressional Arts Competition, An Artistic Discovery.
An Artistic Discovery is a national art competition designed to encourage and reward the artistic ability of America's high school students. Winners from Congressional Districts will have their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol and will have the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. to participate in a special ceremony with other winners from around the country.
"An Artistic Discovery is a competition where young men and women from the 9th Congressional District can showcase their incredible talents. The winner will have a once in a lifetime chance to have his or her artwork displayed in the halls of Congress and an opportunity to attend Columbia College, one of the nation's premier arts institutions," Schakowsky said.
All students from public and private high schools in the 9th Congressional District are eligible to participate. However, in order to take part in this year's competition, high schools must complete a "Participation Confirmation Form" by April 9, 2003. The form can be obtained by contacting Ra Joy, Suburban Director, by phone at (847) 328-3409 or by e-mail at ra.joy@mail.house.gov.
