SCHAKOWSKY APPOINTED TO HOUSE INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE

WILL CONTINUE TO SERVE IN LEADERSHIP, ON ENERGY AND COMMERCE

WASHINGTON, DC–U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), who serves in the Leadership as a Chief Deputy Majority Whip, was appointed to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Schakowsky opposed the Iraq War resolution and was a founding member of the Out-of-Iraq Caucus.

"Unprecedented challenges face our nation today, from all ends of the globe, and I stand ready to ensure that the Bush Administration acts to keep Americans safe in a legal, accountable, and responsible way,... said Schakowsky. "A lack of vigorous Congressional oversight allowed the Bush Administration to rush to war with Iraq, using false intelligence as a tool to build support for the invasion. I look forward to working with Chairman Reyes and members of both parties to restore the trust of the American people, to ensure that our intelligence is accurate, and to prevent threats that are real and imminent....

Schakowsky previously served on the Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs.

During the 110th Congress, Schakowsky will also serve as a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Subcommittees on Health, Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection, and Oversight and Investigations.
