Press Release

WASHINGTON - Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and Congressman Gus Bilirakis, Chair and Ranking Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, released the following joint statement in response to President Joe Biden’s Executive Order regarding America’s supply chains:

“The President’s Executive Order is a positive step to address the supply chain shortages that have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. We know that bad actors, including China, will stop at nothing to fracture our supply chain and race ahead of us in emerging technologies. The House Energy and Commerce Committee passed the bipartisan American COMPETE Act last Congress to help ensure the U.S. leads the world in creating tomorrow’s technologies and to allow us to begin identifying supply chain risks. Securing and rebuilding resilient U.S. supply chains, especially for semiconductor chips and large capacity batteries, is crucial to American manufacturing and helps prevent shortages of much needed products. As leaders of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee, we stand ready to work together and deliver for the American people.”
