SCHAKOWSKY: BUSH ADMINISTRATION'S MISSTATEMENT OF THE DAY -IRAQ AND WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Chief Deputy Whip, issued today's "Bush Administration's Misstatement of the Day" on Iraq and weapons of mass destruction.

David Kay, who reports to the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency and directs the 1200 member Iraq Survey Group searching for weapons of mass destruction, will release his interim report later this month. According to the New York Times:

"An early draft of an interim report by the American leading the hunt for banned weapons in Iraq says his team has not found any of the unconventional weapons cited by the Bush administration as a principal reason for going to war, federal officials with knowledge of the findings said today."

However, during the State of the Union Address on 1/28/03, President Bush warned:

"With nuclear arms or a full arsenal of chemical and biological weapons, Saddam Hussein could resume his ambitions of conquest in the Middle East and create deadly havoc in that region."

President Bush then proclaimed on 5/29/03 during an interview with TVP, Poland:

"We found the weapons of mass destruction."
