SCHAKOWSKY: BUSH ADMINISTRATION'S MISSTATEMENT OF THE DAY - TAX CUTS
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) issued today's "Bush Administration's Misstatement of the Day" on tax cuts.
On January 7, 2003, President Bush said about his tax cut proposal:
"This is a plan that provides tax relief to the working citizen. It's a plan that is a very fair plan." (President Bush, as reported in the Chicago Tribune, 1/7/03)
This is not, however, what President Bush said in November of 2002 during a meeting with his economic advisors. According to a verbatim transcript of the meeting as reported on 60 Minutes9 (1/11/04), President Bush said of the same plan:
"Haven't we already given money to rich people? This second tax cut's gonna do it again." (President Bush in November 2002 according to 60 Minutes)
