IN HONORING THE LIFE AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF POPE JOHN PAUL II
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today joined her colleagues in voting for H.Res.190, a resolution honoring the life and achievements of Pope John Paul II. The bipartisan resolution "commends the life's work of Pope John Paul II," and recognizes "his enduring and historic contributions to the causes of freedom, human dignity, and peace in the world."
Additionally, the Resolution expresses the condolences of the House of Representatives "to the people of Poland for the loss of such an inspirational figure in Poland's transformation from a totalitarian regime to democratic government," and Congress' "heartfelt sympathy to the more than one billion Catholics around the world, including more than sixty-six million Catholics in the United States."
"While we mourn the passing of Pope John Paul II, we also honor his lifelong commitment to humanity and his vision of a more peaceful and just world. Pope John Paul II was the leader of the Catholic Church and a tireless missionary for economic justice and the well-being of all mankind," Schakowsky said.
H.Res.190 was approved by the full House of Representatives by a vote of 415-0.
