Schakowsky leads 81 Democrats in letters supporting good wages and benefits in collective bargaining negotiations
Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Chief Deputy Whip, led 81 Democratic Members of Congress on two separate letters supporting the rights of their constituents to bargain collectively for good wages and benefits in contract negotiations. These letters, sent to the CEO of American Airlines Group and the President of the Communications Workers of America, come as the two parties are engaged in contract negotiations over passenger service members at American Airlines’ wholly-owned subsidiaries, Envoy and Piedmont.
In the letters, the Members expressed their support for higher better and benefits for hard-working Americans across the board, and their desire that these specific collective bargaining negotiations will end in American Airlines paying their employees a living wage. Many passenger service agents currently earn less than $11 an hour, despite their frontline service to the flying public and contributions to the success of American Airlines.
