Schakowsky Reappointed House Senior Chief Deputy Whip for 117th Congress
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) made the following statement after being reappointed to the role of Senior Chief Deputy Whip:
"I am beyond honored and humbled to be reappointed to the role of Senior Chief Deputy Whip for the 117th. This role has been granted to me by my friend, House Majority Whip James Clyburn, who returns to this Congress as the man who helped deliver our President-elect Joe Biden. I appreciate the confidence and trust he has in me to serve as his Senior Chief Deputy Whip, and help deliver the votes we will need as we ‘build back better'. Following a disastrous four years, particularly the last year during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have a tremendous amount of work ahead of us to restore our nation's confidence in our federal government.
"I look forward to working alongside my friend and colleague, Congressman G.K. Butterfield from North Carolina, and congratulate him on the new title. In the 116th Congress, I served alongside my hero and friend, the late Congressman John Lewis. In the 117th Congress, I will continue to honor his work and legacy and make sure we cause some ‘good trouble' as we deliver results for the American people."
