SCHAKOWSKY RESPONSE TO PRESIDENT'S VETO OF FY08 LABOR, HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES, EDUCATION APPROPRIATIONS BILL | ||
Washington, D.C.-- U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky released the following statement today after President Bush vetoed the Fiscal Year 2008 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Bill. "Today, President Bush turned his back on our children, students, and working families when he vetoed the Labor-HHS-Education spending bill. Instead of supporting our nation's priorities, the President proved once again that his only priority is continuing this disastrous war in Iraq. The President claimed that the Labor-HHS-Education bill was too expensive, yet he has absolutely no problem turning right around and asking Congress for another $200 billion for Iraq. The President's hypocrisy on the issue of fiscal responsibility is startling and disturbing. It is unfortunate and disappointing that the President does not share the same priorities of the American people. Sadly, the President would rather spend more money on the disasterous war in Iraq than provide education for our children, assistance with energy cost." |
