Schakowsky Stands with IL-09 Seniors on Save Social Security Day of Action

CHICAGO, IL — Today, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) joined with Democrats’ nationwide and over 75 seniors at the Breakers Senior Living Community for the Save Social Security Day of Action to fight against Republicans’ plan to gut Social Security:

“Social Security is an earned benefit that 70 million Americans rely on, including 127,739 people in my district,” said Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09). “Social Security is not an entitlement - it’s your hard-earned money. Without Social Security, 1 out of 3 Americans would end their lives in poverty. Yet President Trump and Republicans in Congress want to gut this lifesaving program so they can pay for tax cuts for corporations and billionaires. Enough is enough! Today, I joined my community and Americans across the country to send one very clear message: Hands Off Social Security! We must expand Social Security benefits, not cut them. We will not stop fighting back together — Democrats, seniors, Illinoisans. Because when we fight, we win!”
