Schakowsky statement in honor of Memorial Day

May 28, 2018

“On this Memorial Day, we honor and remember all those who have given their lives in service to this country. We recall all the brave women and men of every color and creed who have served to protect our country and our freedom.

“Today we join loved ones in grieving for those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our nation, and we recommit ourselves to ensuring that service men and women, as well as their families, receive the support they deserve. We owe an enormous debt to servicemembers, military families, and veterans, and we need to ensure that they receive the health care, education, and other benefits that they have earned through their sacrifice.

“This Memorial Day and every day, let us commit to make true the words of Abraham Lincoln that serve as the motto of the Department of Veteran’s Affairs by thoroughly caring for those ‘who shall have borne the battle.’”
