Schakowsky Statement on Meta Reinstating Trump's Facebook and Instagram Accounts

WASHINGTON - Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Chief Deputy Whip, released the following statement after Meta announced they will reinstate former President Donald Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts:

"This is a dangerous decision. Reinstating former President Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts will only fan the flames of hatred and division that led to an insurrection. Meta has had ‘guardrails’ in place that have been repeatedly ignored for high-profile accounts. After years of broken promises, I unfortunately do not expect this time to be any different. The Capitol community is still picking up the pieces from the January 6th insurrection that Trump ignited, and now he is returning to the virtual scene of the crime. The reinstatement of Trump’s accounts shows that there is no low Mark Zuckerberg will not stoop to in order to reverse Meta's cratering revenue and stagnant consumer growth, even if it means damaging our democracy."
