Schakowsky Statement on President Trump's Immigration "Ransom Note"

January 26, 2018

Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Chief Deputy Whip, released the following statement on the Trump Administration’s immigration proposal, released late yesterday:

“The Trump Administration has been holding Dreamers hostage since September, and we’re only now getting the ransom note.

“In exchange for releasing Dreamers from the hell that he created for them, President Trump wants to increase deportations, slash legal immigration to historic lows, turn away and deport asylum seekers, give himself the ability to detain immigrants even longer, and waste $25 billion in taxpayer dollars on a useless, hateful wall.

“President Trump needs to get serious, kick Stephen Miller out of the negotiations, and work with Democrats to find a compassionate, comprehensive immigration proposal.”
