Schakowsky Votes For Budget Agreement
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip, voted to pass the Bipartisan Budget Act, H.R. 3877. This bill is a vast improvement over the harmful cuts in the President’s proposed 2020 budget and restores certainty to our nation’s budgeting. Congresswoman Schakowsky offered the following statement after passage of H.R. 3877:
“This legislation creates a budget that invests in the health, financial security and well-being of the American people, and advances our national security. It will avoid a government shutdown, which we have seen can be harmful to so many workers and communities across Illinois and the Chicagoland area. And we protect the full faith and credit of the United States, raising the debt limit through 2021.
“This legislation also permanently ends the threat of sequestration which has imposed 13 percent cuts to non-defense spending, replacing years of reckless austerity budgeting with a responsible budget. We are investing in critical domestic priorities such as funding for a fair, accurate census, Child Care Development Block Grants, resources for combating the opioid epidemic, and increases to the National Institutes of Health research funding for cancer and other diseases.”
