Schakowsky Welcomes Two Chicago Starbucks Franchises to Workers United Labor Union

May 26, 2022

EVANSTON - Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and a proud dues-paying Workers United member, issued the following statement on the unionization of two Edgebrook Starbucks locations:

"I am ecstatic to learn that workers at two Starbucks locations in my district voted to unionize. These two franchises are the first in Chicago to unionize, and I hope many others follow in their footsteps. Unions provide a collective voice at work, allowing workers to push for better working conditions and wages. Unions improve not just the well-being of their members but the public at large.

"Earlier this year, I was proud to stand with Starbucks workers in Logan Square as they petitioned for union recognition. If we want to protect working families, raise wages, expand the middle-class, and promote a strong U.S. economy, we must fight to protect the right of workers to unionize.

"I look forward to visiting these two Starbucks locations in Edgebrook to formally welcome them to the Workers United family!"
