Statement on HHS Awarding Grants to Illinois Community Health Centers
Washington, DC (July 10, 2013) — Rep. Jan Schakowsky released the following statement on HHS awarding grants to Illinois community health centers:
Today, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced $150 million in grants to help community health centers enroll uninsured Americans in new health coverage plans offered under Obamacare. Illinois health centers will receive $6,161,944.
"Community health centers are uniquely equipped to help Illinoisans learn about and take advantage of Obamacare. These grants will allow health centers in my district and across the state to hire 132 additional workers and help over uninsured 195,000 Illinoisans select the plans that are best for them. They will also help make sure that eligible individuals and families receive premium and cost-sharing assistance.
"These grants are part of a coordinated and aggressive effort to get out the facts about Obamacare and give families and businesses the information they need to enjoy its many benefits. I'm also glad that today Walgreens — the nation's largest drugstore chain — announced that it is partnering with Blue Cross Blue Shield to promote Obamacare and help expand health care access."
