Statement on the Passing of Congressman Elijah Cummings

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-9) issued the following statement on news of the passing of her colleague, Congressman Elijah Cummings:

"The people of Baltimore and the nation as a whole have lost a fierce advocate and a dedicated fighter with the passing of my dear friend and colleague Congressman Elijah Cummings. As Chairman of the Oversight and Reform Committee he sought the truth and held the Administration accountable. He was a kind and honorable man and a true American patriot, and his loss will be felt far beyond Baltimore and the halls of Congress. My heart goes out to his wife Maya, their children, and all of his extended family and dedicated staff."
