Statement on the Silent Skies Act
Washington, DC (December 6, 2013) – Rep. Jan Schakowsky released the following statement on the Silent Skies Act:
This week, Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Rep. Joe Crowley and six other members of Congress, introduced H.R. 3650, the Silent Skies Act, legislation to require airlines to expedite the development of technologies to reduce airplane noise in their existing fleets.
“I am proud to join Congressman Crowley in introducing this important legislation that will require airlines to act to reduce fleet noise levels. Almost every week, I hear from constituents who are struggling with significant noise pollution in their homes, schools, and places of business as a result of O’Hare Airport traffic. Important efforts have already been made to reduce unnecessary noise pollution through more efficient flight plans and air traffic control, but it is important that airlines work as quickly as possible to reduce noise by running quieter aircraft. I will continue to strongly support this legislation, urge my colleagues to join as cosponsors, and encourage the House leadership to bring it to the floor for a vote.”
