Schakowsky Secures Nearly $27 Million in Funds for Illinois' 9th Congressional District
WASHINGTON - Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, announced that she has secured $26,239,331 in FY2023 funding from the House Appropriations Committee for 15 projects across the 9th Congressional District. These funds are in addition to the millions in funding the Congresswoman secured earlier this year for community projects.
“For years, we have seen many worthy projects in our community go underfunded. Whether it be school programs, community centers, or infrastructure needs, public funding has come up short or has been non-existent," said Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky. "I am proud to announce, thanks to the passage of this spending package, I will be bringing home $26,239,331 for 15 vital projects throughout Illinois’ 9th Congressional District. This will provide needed funding for our community. I will continue fighting every single day to ensure that all people in the 9th Congressional District have the resources they need and deserve."
Congresswoman Schakowsky championed funding for 15 projects that will directly benefit Illinois' 9th District. These include:
- $300,000 for the Apna Ghar, Chicago, IL for a mobile mental health advocacy unit, including training
- $1,200,000 for the Black Ensemble Educational Outreach Studio Theater, Chicago, Illinois
- $2,000,000 for the Broadway Armory Natatorium Swimming Pool, Chicago, Illinois
- $333,000 for the Community Help Center DBA Muslim Women Resource Center, Chicago, IL for the purchase of equipment to help achieve self-sufficiency
- $2,000,000 for the Connections for the Homeless Hilda's Place Renovations, Evanston, Illinois

The twelve-bill government funding package will create good-paying American jobs, grow opportunity for the middle class and small businesses, and provide a lifeline for working families. Taken together, the funding for Illinois’ 9th District and the funding increases for critical government programs will continue to reverse decades of disinvestment in our communities.
