SCHAKOWSKY REFUSES TO GIVE PRESIDENT BUSH ANOTHER

SCHAKOWSKY CONTINUES FIGHT TO ENSURE SENIORS DO NOT LOSE THEIR EMPLOYER RETIREE COVERAGE

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today said that 12 million retirees would be worse off if Congress passes H.R. 1, the Medicare prescription drug bill. That is why Schakowsky offered a motion to instruct House negotiators on H.R. 1 to guarantee that seniors do not lose their employer retiree coverage.

SCHAKOWSKY: BUSH ADMINISTRATION'S MISSTATEMENT OF THE DAY -
CIVILIAN CASUALTIES IN IRAQ

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) issued today's "Bush Administration's Misstatement of the Day" following a claim by President Bush that the Iraqi war was "one of the most humane military campaigns in history." (Speech by President Bush, Pease Air National Guard Base New Hampshire on October 9, 2003)

Schakowsky has called on the Bush Administration to release the number of Iraqi civilian casualties, but so far, the White House has failed to respond to the request.

SCHAKOWSKY: BUSH ADMINISTRATION PLANS TO BOLSTER CAMPAIGN AGAINST CUBA MAY ACTUALLY BE JEOPARDIZING U.S. NATIONAL SECURITY

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today said that the Bush Administration is misplacing priorities by devoting "additional resources to enforcing the Cuba travel ban, instead of homeland security." Schakowsky expressed her concern that the Bush Administration's efforts to bolster its campaign against the Cuban Government "may actually be jeopardizing U.S. national security."
