EVANSTON, IL - Following last year's deadly outbreak of West Nile Virus across the nation and especially in Chicago's Northern Suburbs, U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and local and state elected officials sponsored a forum to confront the challenges posed by the virus to local communities.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), a Chief Deputy Whip, today joined in releasing a study which found that Bush Administration officials would receive hundreds of thousands dollars in additional annual dividend tax breaks under the Bush $726 Billion tax scheme.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - During a hearing today to examine the state of the nation's tourism and travel industry, U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) said, "Travel and tourism is just one aspect of the downturned economy. The negative impact the presidential tax policy has had on the economy includes the industry we're focusing on today."

SCHAKOWSKY: CONGRESS FAILS TO LIVE UP TO ITS PROMISE TO NATION'S SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today said that Congress must live up to its promise to the nation's special education students and their parents and provide schools with the necessary tools and resources to ensure the best possible education to students with disabilities.
Schakowsky warned, however, that Congress is instead undermining the nation's special education system by passing H.R. 1350, legislation to reauthorize the landmark Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). H.R. 1350:

EVANSTON, IL - Residents of the 9th Congressional District are invited to attend the North Suburban Forum on West Nile Virus on Monday, May 5, 2003, from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. The forum will be held at Skokie Village Hall, Village Council Chambers (5127 Oakton Street).
