SCHAKOWSKY PROMISES ASSISTANCE TO FREE ISRAELI SOLDIERS

CHICAGO, IL - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today met with Eyal and Avi Avitan, brothers of Adi Avitan, one of three Israeli soldiers kidnapped last October Hezbollah.

The meeting, organized by the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago, was also attended by Representative Mark Kirk (R-IL), Counsel General of Israel to the Midwest Tzipora Rimon, the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation president Steven Nasatir, and Howard Kaplan, Chair of the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish United Fund.

NEW LAW PROVIDES RELIEF TO LIMITED NUMBER OF UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS

CHICAGO, IL - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today joined the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), the Polish American Association, and others to educate and warn immigrants about recent changes in immigration law. At a news conference, they addressed the Legal Immigration and Family Equity Act (LIFE), a bill signed into law on December 21, 2000.
