SCHAKOWSKY JOINS WAXMAN AND GEPHARDT
TO INTRODUCE THE NURSING HOME QUALITY PROTECTION ACT

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today joined Representative Henry Waxman (D-CA) and House Democratic Leader Dick Gephardt (D-MO) to introduce the Nursing Home Quality Protection Act.

"Earlier this year, I released a study of nursing homes in Chicago. I found that many seniors in Chicago area nursing homes are not receiving quality medical and personal care. That is why I am very pleased today that we are talking about solutions and not only the problem," said Schakowsky.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Claims today held a hearing on a bill introduced by Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) to strengthen the rights of battered immigrant women. The Battered Immigrant Women Protection Act, H.R. 3083, builds on the successes of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) of 1994, allowing battered immigrant women to escape domestic abuse by addressing adverse incentives that trap them in violent relationships.

Schakowsky is the author of H.R. 3901, the Anti-Predatory Lending Act of 2000, a bill to protect consumers from financial predators. SCHAKOWSKY WINS MAJOR VICTORIES FOR CONSUMER PRIVACY

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today won major victories for consumer privacy. The House Banking Committee and Government Reform Committee each approved a Schakowsky amendment during consideration of bills dealing with privacy issues.

"Consumers should have full control over their private financial and medical records and Congress must offer the American people real protections," Schakowsky said.
