SCHAKOWSKY IS AUTHOR OF H.R. 3901, THE ANTI-PREDATORY LENDING ACT OF 2000

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), a member of the House Banking Committee, today testified before the Congressional Women's Caucus during a briefing on predatory lending. Schakowsky is the author of H.R. 3901, the Anti-Predatory Lending Act of 2000, a bill to protect consumers from financial predators. Consumer advocates and experts also testified during the briefing.

Vajpayee to visit Chicago during his scheduled trip to the United States in September. The letter was initiated by U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) and signed by U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) and seventeen other Illinois House members.

SCHAKOWSKY WINS MAJOR VICTORIES FOR CONSUMER PRIVACY

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today won major victories for consumer privacy. The House Banking Committee and Government Reform Committee each approved a Schakowsky amendment during consideration of bills dealing with privacy issues.

"Consumers should have full control over their private financial and medical records and Congress must offer the American people real protections," Schakowsky said.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today announced her intentions to introduce legislation to prevent future gasoline and heating oil shortages and price run-ups. For weeks, oil companies have been gouging consumers and punishing Chicago and Milwaukee for using ethanol, which has forced Chicagoans to pay an extra 40 to 50 cents more per gallon at the pump.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Following a meeting arranged by U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) with Federal Trade Commission Chairman Robert Pitofsky, U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today applauded the news that a formal investigation has been launched to look into the high gas prices in Chicago and Milwaukee. The FTC will issue its interim report in 30 to 45 days.
