WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today blamed oil companies for the out-of-control gas prices in Chicago and the Midwest. Schakowsky said that it was clear to her that oil companies are responsible for the dramatic price increases in Chicago, and are using ethanol and environmental regulations as decoys for their pricing schemes.

Participants urged immediate action by Congress to pass sensible gun safety measures that would require the sale of child safety locks with each handgun, close the gun show sales loophole, and ban the importation of large capacity ammunition clips.

"ONE OF THE WORST PIECES OF LEGISLATION I HAVE EVER SEEN"

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today called H.R. 8, a bill to fully repeal the estate tax, a gift to the wealthiest Americans. She said that H.R. 8 is a special interests giveaway that, once fully phased in over ten years, would cost $50 billion a year. In Illinois, less than 2500 families will benefit from the full repeal of the estate tax.

Schakowsky and her colleagues demanded that the Republican Leadership holds hearings on this issue and bring to the floor legislation that would eliminate the wage gap between men and women.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) introduced legislation to ensure that online consumers have access to the same basic service from their email providers that they have from their phone company or local post office.

"If you move your home or business, the post office will forward your mail. If your phone number changes, the company will give your callers the new number. Why should it be any different when you're ready to change your e-mail address?" Schakowsky asked.
