WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) announced that she has been appointed to the Government Reform Subcommittee on Criminal Justice, Drug Policy and Human Resources.

The Subcommittee examines issues relating to the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Education and the Department of Justice.

SCHAKOWSKY HOSTS FIRST NATIONAL WOMEN'S FORUM ON GUN VIOLENCE IN CHICAGO

CHICAGO, IL U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) hosted the first national women's forum on gun violence in Chicago today. This is the first of 16 forums scheduled to be held nationwide by women House members to develop strategies and build grassroots support to pass federal gun safety legislation this year.

Last month, the House failed to follow the Senate lead and pass legislation to close the gun show sales loophole, require child safety locks, and ban the importation of high-capacity ammunition clips.

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) called the Republican tax plan that was passed by Congress today a budget buster and a tax giveaway to the rich.

"Like most Americans, I have a question to ask my colleagues on the other side of the aisle. Why is the majority party proposing a risky tax scheme and a broad-tax cut for the wealthy that threatens the future of Medicare and Social Security?" Schakowsky said.

SCHAKOWSKY EXPRESSES HOPE FOR PEACE IN MIDDLE EAST AFTER MEETING WITH ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER BARAK

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) expressed hope for peace in the Middle East after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak during his visit to the United States.

On Sunday, Schakowsky attended the dinner held at the White House in honor of Prime Minister Barak and his wife. She also participated in a meeting with other Jewish members of Congress today with the Prime Minister.
