Groups from across the nation held a news conference in Washington, D.C. last week to bring attention to the harsh effect current immigration laws have on U.S. citizens and legal immigrants.

INCLUDES PROVISION SIMILAR TO SCHAKOWSKY BILL TO FUND TRANSITIONAL HOUSING FOR BATTERED WOMEN
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) today hailed the passage of H.R. 1248, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) by the House of Representatives. Included in the bill is a provision similar to Schakowsky's bill, H.R. 1352, to fund transitional housing for battered women and children.
WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) hailed the approval of bipartisan campaign finance reform legislation. The Shays/Meehan bill will limit "soft money" and regulate issue advertisements paid for by special interests.
