WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), Chair of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce,  and U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Chair of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Data Security, led a group of 13 Members of Congress in demanding answers from Fisher-Price after rockers made by the company have been linked to at least 13 infant deaths between 2009 and 2021.

WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) and U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) led a letter to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) calling for stronger rules to protect infants from dangerous loungers, infant pillows, and other sleeping products. The letter highlights the dangers of the Boppy Newborn Lounger, which was recalled in September 2021 and has been linked to ten infant deaths, and loungers manufactured by Leacho, Inc., which have been linked to two infant deaths.

The law, signed by President Biden in May, bans inclined sleep products and padded crib bumpers, regardless of date of manufacture.

Tipping furniture presents a serious risk of injury and death to children. Furniture or items on top of furniture such as TVs can fall onto a child, causing the child to be crushed, trapped, or struck by falling objects.
