Schakowsky Requests Nearly $27 Million in Funding for 9th Congressional District
EVANSTON - Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, announced that she has requested $26,933,359 in FY2023 funding from the House Appropriations Committee for 15 projects across the 9th Congressional District. These requests are in addition to the millions in funding the Congresswoman secured earlier this year for community projects in the 9th Congressional District.
"Community Project Funding is an opportunity for members of Congress to direct federal funding to worthy projects throughout the district they represent. Members and their staff work closely with community organizations and municipalities from across their districts in order to determine where dollars can do the most good," said Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky. "I received over 75 requests this year, and all these projects deserve to be fully funded. My staff and I had a very difficult time deciding which 15 projects to include this year, I wish I could have submitted them all. I am confident the Appropriations Committee will also see the value in these 15 requests and will send us the corresponding funds."
Congresswoman Schakowsky selected the funding projects based on their reach and breadth of impact on the community, as well as likelihood of receiving funding. Projects submitted are not guaranteed funding, are subject to funding decisions by the Appropriations Committee, and will ultimately depend on the final passage of the funding bills. Congresswoman Schakowsky and her family members have no financial interest in any of the funding requests.
