On Tuesday, Republicans in the House of Representatives passed a disastrous funding bill that gives President Donald Trump and unelected billionaire Elon Musk the power to steal from the middle class, seniors, veterans, working people, and small businesses to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.
WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) released the following statement after voting against Republican’s Continuing Resolution (CR):
“Moments ago, Republicans in the House of Representatives passed a disastrous funding bill that gives President Donald Trump and unelected billionaire Elon Musk power to steal from the middle class, seniors, veterans, working people, and small businesses to pay for tax breaks for billionaires.
President Donald Trump promised to lower the high cost of living in the United States, and he has done the exact opposite. The chaos, confusion, and fear Trump has unleashed during his first month in office has not improved the quality of life of the American people. But billionaires? They are getting more tax cuts.
Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk do not care about our federal workers. They want to fire civil servants to further enrich themselves and their billionaire friends. I joined Environmental Protection Agency workers at Daley Plaza to take a stand. We are not backing away from the fight. We have to resist.
A protest a day will help keep the billionaire tax cuts away.We raised hell about Donald Trump and Co-President Musk's $3 trillion budget freeze and they retreated. Each and every day, my Democratic colleagues and I are shining a light on the pain this Administration is inflicting on the American people.
On Friday, I voted in favor of a continuing resolution to keep our government open and funded. While the continuing resolution did not include everything I had initially wanted, we could not let the government shut down.
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) released the following statement on the continuing resolution to keep government programs and services functioning until March 14, 2025:
I hope you and your family are taking time to enjoy the holiday season! With so much going on right now, it helps to take a step back and reflect on all the good things in the world.
As the holiday shopping season kicks into full gear, we must reign in the excessive power of companies and fully fund the Consumer Product Safety Commission to improve product safety and better protect consumers. To report a dangerous product or to check if a product is recalled, go to SaferProducts.gov.
Thank you to the people of Illinois’ 9th Congressional District for once again choosing me to be your voice in Congress. It truly is the honor of a lifetime! The fight for equal rights for all, an economy that works for everyday Americans, not just the rich, reproductive rights, and environmental protections goes on. Keep the faith. Let's get to work.
