Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), released the following statement after the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee announced that funding for the next phase of the Des Plaines River Project would be included in the Water Resources Development Act. This inclusion will allow for almost $200 million in federal funding for Phase II of the project. This project was also included in the Senate version of the bill.

This bipartisan legislation would require the U.S. to develop a comprehensive strategy to increase and strengthen women’s participation in peace negotiations and conflict prevention globally.
