WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), a Chief Deputy Whip, released the following statement on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) new report finding that in 2019 motor vehicle crashes in the United States killed an estimated 36,500 people, injured 4.5 million people, damaged 23 million vehicles, and cost Americans $340 billion, or 1.6% of our nation’s gross domestic product:

WASHINGTON - Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, announced that she has secured $26,239,331 in FY2023 funding from the House Appropriations Committee for 15 projects across the 9th Congressional District. These funds are in addition to the millions in funding the Congresswoman secured earlier this year for community projects.

WASHINGTON - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), a Senior Chief Deputy Whip and member of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, and U.S. Representative Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) introduced the Chixoy International Financial Institution Reparations Act of 2022. This bill would help create a recourse mechanism for victims of human rights violations associated with projects supported by International Financial Institutions (IFIs). This bill directs U.S. representatives at IFIs to consider human rights and corruption risks before agreeing to support a proposed project.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), Chair of the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee, and Congressman Paul Tonko (NY-20), Chair of the Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee, wrote to the Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) concerning the health and safety risks gas stoves pose to consumers. The Subcommittee leaders requested a briefing from the agencies on their efforts to curb harmful emissions from gas stoves.
