HR 5331 - Violence Against Immigrant Women Act of 2012
Washington, D.C. (May 8, 2012) — Reps. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) and Judy Chu (D-CA) introduced the H.R. 5331, Violence Against Immigrant Women Act of 2012, which amends the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) to expand protections for immigrant victims of domestic violence. This legislation would ensure that immigrant victims have the legal resources necessary to escape abuse.
CHICAGO, IL (May 3, 2012) — Today Rep. Jan Schakowsky (IL-9) announced the Illinois 9th district's winners of the 2012 "An Artistic Discovery Congressional Art Competition.... Washington, DC (April 27, 2012) - Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) released the following statement on House passage of HR 4628 — legislation that calls for freezing the student loan rate on July 1 in exchange for an offset that undermines health care for women and children:
"House Republicans have demonstrated their complete disregard and contempt for women's health and the plight of students by forcing a choice between the elimination of funding for the Prevention and Public Health Fund or relief for students who are saddled with student loan debt.
Washington, D.C. (April 26, 2012) —The Kaiser Family Foundation reported today that 15.8 million people will share an estimated $1.34 billion in rebates for their 2011 plan year under the medical loss ratio (MLR) provision, or the 80/20 rule, included in the Affordable Care Act.
Under the 80/20 rule, insurance companies must spend at least 80 percent of their premium dollars on medical care and health quality improvement. Insurance companies that spend more than 20 percent of premium dollars on administrative costs and profits are required to provide rebates to their consumers.
Chicago, IL (April 20, 2012) -Today U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) joined students from St. Margaret Mary School in Rogers Park for a celebratory release of classroom-raised rainbow trout in Rogers Park in observance of Earth Day. The students raised the fish from eggs through a program with Trout Unlimited.
