Washington, D.C. (May 31, 2012) — Today, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 3541, the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act (PRENDA) of 2012:

"If you ask American women where gender discrimination affects them most, they will say in their paychecks, but today Republicans brought to the floor a bill that addresses a non-existent problem in the United States and refused to allow a vote on a bill that would truly benefit women, the Paycheck Fairness Act.

"I applaud Lambda Legal for their lawsuit seeking marriage equality for same-sex couples within Illinois. While they represent sixteen specific couples in the suit, the issues they raise will impact thousands of same-sex couples throughout the state.

Washington, D.C.(May 24, 2012) — Today, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) responded to a report issued by the Centers on Medicare and Medicaid Services with updated data on the savings that seniors are receiving due to the health care law, the Affordable Care Act.

In the first four months of 2012, more than 416,000 people with Medicare saved an average of $724 on prescription drugs and 12.1 million used a free preventive service. More than 5.1 million people with Medicare saved over $3.2 billion on prescription drugs since the health law took effect.

WASHINGTON, DC (May 16, 2012) — Today, Rep. Jan Schakowsky and eight House colleagues introduced H.R. 5781, the Inclusive Home Design Act, to expand the number of homes that are accessible for people with disabilities. People with mobility impairments have limited access to most homes because there are currently no federal standards for accessibility features in homes built with federal assistance.
