Washington, D.C. (June 28, 2012) — Today, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) released the following statement after the Supreme Court declared the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PL-111-148) constitutional:

"Today is a historic day when the Supreme Court declared that the Affordable Care Act and the health security it brings is the law of the land. With President Obama's leadership, Congress enacted the most significant law in half a century. The law ends insurance industry abuses in the health system, improves Medicare and Medicaid for seniors and the disabled, and covers millions of uninsured Americans.

"I am pleased that the Supreme Court struck down three out of the four key provisions of Arizona's dangerous immigration law. The ruling shows that the Obama Administration was right to challenge the law's constitutionality and reaffirms the notion that the federal government should frame immigration law, not states.
