$100 billion in cuts would be devastating to low-income and middle class Americans

Letter to Boehner condemns Republican bill that attacks Planned Parenthood


WASHINGTON, DC (February 11, 2011) —Today Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), an active leader in the Pro-Choice Caucus, sent a letter to Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) detailing concerns over Republican legislation, HR 217, the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act. Schakowsky's letter was co-signed by 99 additional Democrats, including the Co-Chairs of the Pro-Choice Caucus: Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) and Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY).

Bill would extend Unemployment Insurance, one of Government's most powerful tools


WASHINGTON, DC (February 8, 2011) — Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) signed on as a cosponsor to The Emergency Unemployment Compensation Expansion Act, which would provide an additional 14 weeks of unemployment insurance benefits to individuals who have exhausted the 99 weeks available under current law. She released the following statement:

"Providing additional unemployment benefits to the so-called "99ers... is not only the right thing to do morally, it is also the smart thing to do economically.
