"Jay Clayton has spent his career defending the interests of Wall Street. He has helped big banks like Goldman Sachs and Barclays avoid paying taxes and dodge government regulations. He has no government experience and has never served as a prosecutor. Now, Donald Trump has chosen him to head the Securities and Exchange Commission, the watchdog that oversees the very banks Clayton has spent his career defending.

“As their first action in the new Congress, House Republicans chose to serve themselves and forget about their constituents. Last night, they met behind closed doors and rigged the rules in their favor. They hoped that they could completely gut the Office of Congressional Ethics without the American people and House Democrats taking notice. Faced with overwhelming opposition, they were forced to withdraw that change.

Glenview, IL – This afternoon, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, State Senator Daniel Biss, State Representative Laura Fine & State Representative Robyn Gabel sent a letter to the Federal Railroad Administration calling for a full Environmental Impact Study (EIS) on the potential consequences of the proposed UPRR Siding Extension at A-20 Project. This project would allow for the construction of a 10,000-foot freight train holding track in and near Glenview and Northbrook, Illinois.

Washington, D.C.– This week, 105 Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives, led by Congresswoman Barbara Lee, sent a letter to President-elect Trump urging the elimination of the Hyde Amendment. Federal restrictions prevent millions of women, including low-income women, servicewomen, federal employees, Native American women and residents of Washington, D.C. from exercising their constitutional right to abortion care. The letter was co-led by Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, Congresswoman Gwen Moore, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro.
